Yes! There are numerous areas in Chicago considered “food deserts” or neighborhoods with no easy, accessible grocery stores in the community. The lack of access to healthful foods often pushes people to resorting to unhealthy fast food restaurants that are easier to get to. Public health officials are in utter shock of the statistics showing a growing trend in obesity, diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases in these “food desert” in our hometown of Chicago.
